Is It “Anti-Faith” To Prepare For The Coming Economic Collapse?

Does being a prepper show a lack of faith in God?  Should good Christians reject prepping altogether?  Yesterday, someone actually accused me of being “anti-faith” because I am encouraging people to prepare for the coming economic collapse.  This person believes that if I had faith, then I would make “no provision” for what is ahead and simply trust “in God’s providence alone”.  So is that person right?  Is it really “anti-faith” to prepare for the coming economic collapse?  I spent quite a bit of time thinking about these questions today.

Those that visit my site on a regular basis know that I am a Christian and I am very open about that fact.  I am someone that places a very high value on faith.  The Scriptures tell us to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”.  Without God, none of us has any hope.  In fact, without God I would probably be dead by now.

But faith is not about sitting on your couch and waiting for God to do everything for you.  Rather, faith is about taking action on what God has directed you to do.

What I don’t understand is why any of these Christians that are 100% against prepping continue to go to work.  If we are to make “no provision” for ourselves and simply trust “in God’s providence alone”, then why do they need to earn a paycheck?  Why can’t they just sit home and wait for God to fill up their bank accounts?

Yes, God can do mind blowing supernatural things that require absolutely no participation on our part.  I know, because it has happened to me.  But the vast majority of the time, God works with us.  He requires us to take steps of faith and obedience, and in the process He leads us, He guides us, He blesses us and He opens doors for us.

The story of Noah is a perfect example of this.  He was perhaps the very first “prepper”.  God could have kept Noah and his family safe from the flood by transporting them to some sort of very comfortable “heavenly waiting area” and brought them back when everything was dry, but He didn’t do that.  Instead, God warned Noah about what was coming and ordered him to build a boat.

So did Noah just sit back and wait for God to do everything for Him?  No, he exercised his faith by taking action.  He believed the warning and he built a giant boat.  In Hebrews 11:7, Noah is commended for his radical faith which produced radical action…

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

Faith almost always involves action.  God wants to see if we are going to believe Him and do what He has instructed us to do.

And the amount of faith that Noah exhibited was staggering.  The boat that he and his family built was approximately the size of a World War II aircraft carrier.  It took a very, very long time to build that boat and collect all of the food and supplies for his family and for all of the animals.

What happens if we lose power indefinitely — foods that require freezing or refrigeration for long term storage are going to go bad. Emergency food storage in advance will be the only way to feed yourself and your family.

And surely Noah must have gotten very tired of all of the mocking as he warned everyone else about what was coming for decades.

But in the end, Noah’s prepping paid off.  He and his family were saved, and everyone else drowned.

Unfortunately, there are lots of Christians out there today that are 100% against preparing for what is ahead, even though they will admit that an economic collapse is coming.

The individual that accused me of being “anti-faith” is an example of this.  The following is an excerpt from the message that this person wrote to me…

Now, although I agree with you about the things you write about the corruption of the financial system, and that there will be a collapse, yet I do not agree with you in promoting people to be self-sufficient contrary to the Lord’s teaching. If you truly have God then no provision needs to be made at all for yourself, just trust in God’s providence alone.

This individual agrees that a collapse is coming, but insists that we should doabsolutely nothing to prepare for it.

Is that really what God would have us do?

In Genesis 41, God revealed to Joseph that there would be seven good years followed by seven lean years.  So did Joseph party for seven years and “trust in God’s providence alone” for the lean years?

No, Joseph engaged in an “emergency food storage project” unlike anything that the world had ever seen up until that point.  By heeding God’s warning and taking action, he ended up saving the nation of Egypt and his entire family.

Some people believe that preparing for hard times means that you are “fearful”, but I don’t see it that way at all.

Rather, I believe that there is hope in understanding what is happening and that there is hope in getting prepared.

The people that stick their heads in the sand right now are going to get blindsided by what is coming.  Many of them will totally give in to despair when they realize that they have lost everything.

I think that we would all benefit greatly by taking advantage of the wisdom found in Proverbs 6:6-11…

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

You don’t prepare when the storm hits.  Rather, you prepare while the storm is still off in the distance.

Throughout the Scriptures, those that “prepare” are commended.

For example, just check out the following parable of Jesus that we find in Matthew 25

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Do we want to be like the wise virgins or the foolish virgins?

Yes, we never want to become obsessed with material things.  We need to keep our priorities in order and focus on the things that are really important.

But that doesn’t mean that we can all just sit on our couches, eat chips, and wait for God to do everything for us.

In my opinion, we have been warned about the coming economic collapse in a multitude of different ways.  At this point, what is coming should be glaringly obvious to anyone with half a brain.

I am trying to do my best to warn people about what is coming from my little spot on the wall.  In the Scriptures, those that are aware that a threat is coming are responsible for warning others about it.  The following is a short excerpt from Ezekiel 33

Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head. Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’

Are you a watchman on the wall?

Are you blowing your trumpet?

That is one of the reasons why I work so hard on my articles.  I hope that people will use them as a tool to help warn others about what is coming. Click here for more info.

My goal is never to create fear.  Rather, my goal is to wake people up and give them hope.

Yes, very, very painful economic times are coming.

Those that heed the warnings and diligently prepare will have a good chance of weathering the coming storm.(source)

I honestly don’t know what those that have made absolutely no preparations are going to do.

The folks I know that prepared for y2k are now doing nothing and refuse to even discuss it. Reason is: much was tossed or donated after the farce was over. Wood stoves sat in garages or sheds, finally donated or sold several years later. I sold a grain mill and dehydrator, never to buy again. I have canned goods from local grocery stores, meats, fish and veggies now and rotate. Long term food storage went to food banks folks told me and so did mine. If bio weapons or nukes are used, nothing we do will matter. Common sense for city folks (who cannot relocate because of work) try to have a bug out location. I don’t tell others what I have or doing at this point for sometime. Things could go downhill fast. Stay low key and quiet about your stashes. Find trusted friends for bartering.

James had something to say about this:
Jas 2:14 My brothers, what is the gain if anyone says he has faith, but he does not have works? Is the faith able to save him?
Jas 2:15 But if a brother or a sister is naked and may be lacking in daily food,
Jas 2:16 and any one of you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, but does not give them the things the body needs, what gain is it?
Jas 2:17 So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself.
Jas 2:18 But someone will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith out of my works.
Jas 2:19 You believe that God is One. You do well; even the demons believe and shudder.
Jas 2:20 But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
Jas 2:21 Was not our father Abraham justified by works offering up his son Isaac on the altar? Gen. 22:9
Jas 2:22 You see that faith worked with his works; and out of the works the faith was made perfected.

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

There is nothing wrong with preparing for a disaster, especially when the Lord warned us that it is coming. Does He want His people to starve? The Lord told Noah to fill his boat with supplies. Jesus told Jerusalem what to look for and what to do in regards to fleeing Jerusalem. Paul was warned of a coming famine and encouraged the churches to give. The Bible says:

Proverbs 27:12 – The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Proverbs 10:5 – He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
2 Thess 3:10 – For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all Christians put away extra food for themselves and others for any impending disaster that may befall us? We would be the hands and feet of Jesus acting as a light on this world if we did. The issue is not about “not trusting God” it is about “trusting God and listening to His warnings”
There are so many passages in the Bible that speak about working hard and preparing for the future. For instance, the following bit of wisdom found in Proverbs 6:6-11 comes from the Modern English Version…

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.
7 Which, having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

9 How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep–
11 so will your poverty come upon you like a stalker, and your need as an armed man.
    Psalm 146King James Version (KJV)
146 Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:
7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:
8 The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:
9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
10 The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD.

If it’s your divine marching orders, then do it. Not everyone will get that unction to prep, so just pay attention to the LORD’S directives, and do accordingly!
I would say that common sense will draw many to prep, but the single people will probably not be drawn to doing that! So it’s really on an individual basis only1

Couple of things…Yes and amen. Trying to get Christians to listen is like…well, almost pointless anymore. God revealed to me about 5 years ago that those provisions that you may have stored might not necessarily be for you. That for those left behind, those who will be saved, will be led to those provisions. That just because we might not be here…are we not still supposed to provide for the weak, sick, widows and children? So even if you don’t think you will be here to see the bad stuff…shouldn’t we all still try to help those left behind in the most terrible time in history? Will God not bless that?

I just can’t get ANYONE (read Christians) to grasp this idea. I even tried to explain this to a pastor and he said that, “He will be in heaven and they (non-believers) had their chance.” I was stunned…every Christian person is praying for someone (family or not) they love to be saved.

Imagine, rapture has happened, people you loved are gone. You know why you were left behind. The world is now more scary than any nightmare. Say, you’re a woman, alone, with a starving child. Dirty, starving, cold, sick, chased, demons abound, totally filled with despair…You look up into heaven and tell God that “they” were right, that God is real and that you believe…and to please help.

God leads you to a house, you get inside…food, blankets, water, medicine, safety, a bed, clean clothes and a bible with an explanation. And saving grace in Jesus comes. Would you not then praise and glorify God?

Would God then not bless the person who sacrificed in the now to help save a soul in the future? Imagine if every Christian household did this…imagine how many people (if not yourself) would be saved in the future. Imagine if God led YOUR loved one to a house like this? Wouldn’t you be eternally grateful that someone you didn’t know had the foresight to do these things and God led your loved one there? Jeeeeez….what is so hard about this concept….sigh…

For those who don’t believe…God is real. Jesus is real. An afterlife is real. Eternity is real…and so is hell. I will be praying that God leads you to a house with provision. ‘Cause the end is coming and it’s going to be bad beyond your imagination. “Jesus saves”…is not just a quaint saying…

There are good christian people that can’t afford to prepare like so many are spouting. Some can’t even buy good food, I like S Quayle very much, but his comment about this story on his site was, I do not know what those that do not prepare are going to do, not quoted. That really bugs me to no end. I am not wealthy, far from it, I am a polio from vaccine survivor, med retired at a young age on SS, but at least I can eat and live in a house, for now at least. Maybe there should be pointers for people that can’t figure how they might eat tomorrow, let alone in a year or 2 from now. I have some preparing done, but it will not last long, but I guess that is why people need to look to God and let Him worry about it. I do not worry no matter what comes, but some do and I have seen them worry, they would love to take this advice, but can’t and it scares them. I would be afraid too, without faith. Give them some advise, they can’t buy the products on sites that talk about this and they are truly afraid. Too many of these sites gear to the ones who have, not the have nots. I have not read a lot on this site so do not know if this is especially true of this site. Quayle’s comment bothered me this time, especially when he charges so much for books that as much as I love and would love to read them, I can’t. You are not responsible for his comments, I realize, just address these issues also if you do not. Not for me, but the ones who a afraid. At least I am not afraid yet, I am only human.

We see every day how islam is a cult of death! These Christians that are of antiprep mind set appear to me to be a suicide martyr cult! Though they say things like they trust in the Lord to save them, if some one warned them that a car was going to hit them I’m sure they would scramble out of the way! I’m reminded of that high wall of the Temple that the devil tried tempt Jesus to jump off of ? What was Jesus’ reply “Thou shall not temp thy Lord God” Oh well?

Isaiah says “but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…” ‘wait’ in this verse is not defined as twiddling our thumbs until He returns. The original word used here is serve, as in a waiter/ waitress. We are supposed to work while we wait on Him. Part of that is learning to be dependent upon Him while exercising our faith to help take care of ourselves and our loved ones. The Lord dealt with me last year that we need to prep. My husband thinks I’m stupid and is not on board, but he doesn’t try to stop me either. He knows I’m the smart one lol.

A great, great man of God who I was so highly priveleged to have as a personal friend years ago said to me in a letter that to be worried about `Doomsday` was a trick of the devil. Did not our Blessed Lord say sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof and take no thought of the morrow. If `Doomsday` happens we will most definetly have to pray and the more we pray the better. Much prayer, much power. God bless.

Would it not be better to educate yourself on edible plants and fungi, learn how to grow your own food, learn to hunt and to fish and how to preserve the food once it’s grown or caught? A stockpile may not always be accessible as catastrophic events such as wildfires or earthquakes or floods could destroy it all. Even if it isn’t destroyed and you do have access, would it not be better to learn these skills so that you aren’t relying on a dwindling supply of goods? Plus, you can carry the knowledge with you if you need to relocate and you can teach others as well.
