Survival Prescription Medication and the Apocalypse – You Have Every Right to Worry

In the days following a catastrophic disaster, you can expect several grocery stores to close their doors.

Store shelves cleared in a rush by local residents realizing that no new supplies of food are coming to stores anytime soon — and residents better get what they can while they can or they and their families are going to go hungry in just a few days.

There’s another store that’s going to close down also. One that’s likely to be looted unless local authorities clamp down quickly after a disaster has struck. I’m talking about drug stores, where men and women of all ages go for their prescription medication today.

Some of this medication is necessary to keep people with certain conditions alive. Without it they will die. Maybe that’s you or someone you know?

Prepping For Prescription Medication

Because most prescription medications come with strict limits on quantity and refills, just doing what you’ve always done is not likely to get you the stockpile (emergency reserves) you’re likely to need in a time of widespread disaster. Here are a few things you can do right now to prepare for the possibility of infrastructure collapsing and your neighborhood pharmacy closing its doors for good.

Is Your Condition Treatable By Natural Methods?

First, ask yourself an important question: Can your condition be treated by natural methods? An entire industry exists today on good nutrition and health and how by the use of specific foods, herbs, and supplements chronic conditions can be put in reverse — even healed. How is this possible? We know a lot more about human biology today and how vitamins and minerals play specific roles in allowing the body to do best what it was designed to do — which is to heal itself of injury while protecting from disease and illness.

Pay attention: That’s what our bodies our designed to do.

Once you realize this, you can now seek proper nutrition and best health practices (like regular exercise) with an open mind.Know this: A number of conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, fibromyalgia and several other conditions may be treatable today by you simply taking a step back from your current diet (what you eat and drink on a daily basis) and making some radical changes to it.

We know a lot more about our bodies today, and what causes them to break down, and also what can work to restore good health naturally. Several books have been published in recent months.

The foods we ingest into our bodies, starting at a young age, are usually not things that are good for us, especially in the West, where so many foods are processed and then canned or packaged, causing a loss of nutritional value while also receiving new ingredients — toxic “additives”.

In low amounts, these are considered non-toxic (even though they are toxic). But over time these additives, including sugar, lead to the break down of our bodies, generally thought of as the root cause of poor health and most disease nowadays.

Poor Nutrition Early In Life Leads To Poor Health Later

Now, some conditions like high blood pressure may be considered “hereditary” — but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer from high blood pressure. If a condition runs in your family that means that you have even more incentive to embrace great nutritional choices (don’t settle for “good” nutritional choices — look for “great” nutritional choices) and choose foods and nutritional supplements (vitamins and minerals) that are radically different than what most people eat, if you want to have the best chances.

What About Advanced Conditions?

The more advanced your high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, etc. though, the harder it may be for you to treat it naturally. In other words, you may be so far advanced and have waited so long to change your diet that you may have little hope today of curing your condition, or simply making it manageable without medication.Listen closely, please: Even if you are far advanced, you should still embrace radical changes to your diet today — and begin making greatnutritional choices — because it is only likely to help you, even if just in small ways — to help slow down the progression of your condition at the least.

Continue to take your prescription medication, of course, but perhaps in the coming months the radical nutritional choices you start making today can begin to have an effect. Your condition can get better; slightly better at first; then noticeably better as you continue to stay committed to the radical diet changes you have made. The moment your current condition begins to reverse itself, now you have evidence that your condition is treatable and possibly even curable.

Continue on this new diet path. In the coming months, talk with your doctor about the new diet choices you’re making and ask him or her to help you gradually ween off your medication.

Some doctors are out of date though and out of touch. Their knowledge may be limited rather than growing to encompass the latest data being published on nutrition. You might want to find a new doctor or start seeing a nutritionist — one who is up to date on the latest health data on foods and supplements.

Healthy Foods And Supplements

For the long list of healthy foods and supplements, you’ll have to reach for a book or a website on health with a good reputation for publishing the latest data, such as WHFoods.com.I’m not going to list foods and supplements at length here, simply because this would turn into a 50 – 75 page book (there are too many conditions and too many foods and supplements that should be discussed). Instead, this article is to make readers realize that many conditions are treatable if they would only begin making great nutritional choices and a radical change to their current diet.

Mass numbers of people will benefit from great nutritional choices — and the sooner they make these choices, the better odds they have of surviving through a period of disaster, one that lasts several months or possibly even years, without prescription medication.

With that said, I will suggest the following:

Radical Diet Changes – Time To Clean House

Get rid of the junk. Ice cream, sodas, red meat, candy, fast food, fried foods, and other processed foods with unhealthy additives.Consider going on a gluten-free (wheat free) diet. A gluten-free diet will help you avoid things like donuts, pizzas, hamburgers, and burritos. Gluten is common in products containing wheat, such as bread and refined-white flour which shows up in several products, including several canned soups and other foods.

Though whole wheat and whole grains may be healthy choices, if you go gluten-free you will narrow your diet to essentially meat (including fish) and vegetables and fruit.

If your diet is made up solely of healthy meats, vegetables, and fruit, you are on a radical step to good health. Now you need to stay committed — continue to stay away from junk foods and products containing gluten (which will keep you away from products containing refined-white flour, which is reportedly a bad substance for our bodies to ingest).

Learn new ways to cook food; healthy sauté for example, vs. higher temperature frying that changes the chemical composition of healthy cooking oils like olive oil. At high temperatures olive oil is reported to become toxic; so cook with olive oil at lower temperatures. That’s just one example.

Final Step

Become familiar with publications on nutrition and healthy living. Read up on what vegetables and fruits do for our bodies, especially when we’ve stopped eating junk-food and sugar and stopped over-eating. If you simply add vegetables and fruits to your diet, but still eat junk (toxic foods), your vegetables and fruits may have little effect.Learn about each vitamin and mineral that is recommended for good health and how each one plays a specific role in your body’s health. When you see the important role that specific vitamins and minerals play, you’ll have a greater appreciation for choosing healthy foods.

WHFoods.com is an excellent site for reading about specific vitamins and minerals as well as what foods they are found in and even how to prepare and cook these foods for optimal nutrition.

Take a few notes. Within a few days you can know quite a bit more than you know today about healthy nutritional choices. You may be able to pass this knowledge down to someone else who’s also struggling with a condition they don’t realize may be treatable and even curable through natural means.

Medicinal Herbs

Recently a reader asked:”I was wondering if you could compile a list of medicinal herbs and weeds for common illnesses and for those who may have cancer, epilepsy, and other serious, consistent illnesses where daily medicines will be required… like me, for epilepsy. Without a drugstore I would be lost and having seizures. Of course I could always attempt to rob a pharmacy but frankly even in chaotic times I don’t want to get shot for trying to stay alive and healthy.”

In Part 2 of this article you’re reading (which should post to SecretsofSurvival.com next week), we’ll look at medicinal herbs. Science knows a lot more today about the plants all around us that grow in nature, some which have surprising health properties.

Caution About Prescription Medication

Some illnesses aren’t going to cure themselves, no matter how much best health practices we try to throw at them. People concerned about the lack of pharmacies and the lack of doctors after a time of collapse have a challenge; it’s a challenge that has filled a lot of people with fear and worry today.Theory goes that a lot of people who rely on prescription medication in order to live and function are going to die in a time of collapse, when pharmacies close their doors for good.

Because quantities are limited when dispensing medication, as it stands today prescription medication is difficult to stockpile for a time of extended disaster. The only thing I can advise is this: A few million people should write Congress. It’s no secret that a growing number of people are concerned about the threats facing America and other Western nations. Ask Congress to address this. Seek Congress to pass laws approving the stockpiling of certain medications — be sure to name yours and those of your loved ones in any letters.

Faith And Assurance

If you have faith in God, have faith that he will deliver you in a time of collapse, and even has the power to heal you. Don’t fear that one day your prescription medication will run out (but don’t be complacent about it either). Instead, fear a life apart from God. The Bible teaches that when we live by faith, God sees us through anything and will never abandon us. He provides for all our needs. However, when we live apart from God, a life without faith, there’s no assurance of anything — except death and ultimately hell, if we never find faith in the one true God.Let’s face it.

Most of us aren’t getting younger. People lose their lives for a lot more reasons than just disaster. You can thoroughly prep for a disaster yet die in a car crash tomorrow, or catch a stray bullet simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, months or years before a disaster ever strikes. When that day comes, the only question that will matter is this: Did you ever find faith and did you ever take the time to find out what that means? Repent and put your faith in Christ today.

Books can be your best pre-collapse investment.

FYI, given that a high-ranking Chinese party member threatened to turn off the delivery of antibiotics when many Americans were accusing China of causing the pandemic due to a lab leak (sure, (I know. I know. Just pure right wing conspiracy theorists at work, huh? NOT!) I recommended to many self-reliants that, with rising tensions with China over Taiwan, it would be an especially wise move to obtain a stock of medications on which they are seriously dependent.

Because, as the article states, “most prescription medications come with strict limits on quantity and refills,” I recommended that each person contact their physician, explain their concerns about the international tensions, and ask for a prescription that they could then fill by using GoodRx.com or markcubancostplusdrugcompany.com. Either one will potentially save a person some serious money, although a great many medications are protected by current patents and will still be expensive. In this case, “generics are your friend.”

i tried doing this with my own physicians. None of them batted an eye, and I was able to fill the prescriptions, no muss, no fuss. Of course, I was not trying to get pain relievers or other medications that can be abused.

Many, but not all, people have conditions that could be cured or drastically improved with lifestyle and diet changes, Diabetes II, for example. For many it is easier to keep eating the way they do and to simply pay the extra medication expense. With a major supply chain interruption, however, the obvious alternative could be death.

Then, again, life is about choices, right?
